The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s soccer teams will take the field on Saturday and Sunday at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, PEI when they host the UNBSJ Seawolves and STU Tommies to finish their ACAA regular seasons. Game times are 2 and 4pm (w/m) on each day.
The women’s ‘Canes enter Saturday’s game at 7-3-0 and in third place in the ACAA standings while their opponents, the UNBSJ Seawolves, are 3-3-4 and sitting in fourth place.
This season the ‘Canes defeated the UNBSJ Seawolves on September 22 in Saint John, NB by a score of 1-0.
The Hurricanes will then shift their focus to the STU Tommies on Sunday; the Tommies are 9-0-1 this season and leading the ACAA standings. On October 23 in Fredericton, the Hurricanes dropped their only game against the Tommies this season by a score of 3-1.
Hurricanes center-midfielder, T-Anna Fraser, is looking forward to getting this important weekend underway.
“Our team is wanting to come out stronger than ever, and to put everything we’ve worked on over the season into these two games to get the results we’re looking for,” she shared.
‘Canes striker, Nicole Fergusson agrees.
“It’s a big weekend coming up for us all individually and as a team. We will see how bad we want this. To succeed this weekend we must forget our past experiences and focus on our future games; I think this team is capable of anything.”
The men’s Hurricanes enter this weekend at 7-2-1 and in first place in the ACAA regular season standings; while their opponents on Saturday, the UNBSJ Seawolves, are 4-2-4 and sitting in fourth place.
On September 22 in Saint John, NB, the Hurricanes and Seawolves tied 0-0 in their only other meeting this season.
The action will continue on Sunday when the Hurricanes host the 6-1-3, STU Tommies.
The Tommies, in second place in the ACAA men’s soccer standings, trail the Hurricanes by just a single point. STU won their only meeting with the Hurricanes this season, a 3-1 victory in Fredericton, NB on September 23.
‘Canes first year player, Bobby Gamba, realizes that first place entering the playoffs could come down to Sunday’s match.
“The fight for playoff positioning is still on, so we’ll have to be at our best this weekend. Both teams have taken points from us this season, so it’ll be a challenging weekend. We’ll take it game by game, and hopefully come out on top.”
Following this weekend, the top teams from the regular season standings will compete at the 2018 ACAA men’s and women’s soccer championships, hosted by the MSVU Mystics in Halifax, NS on October 26-28.
The Hurricanes are hosts of the 2018 CCAA National Men’s Soccer Championship in Cornwall, PEI on November 6-10.
